The future of higher education

What is the future of higher education? I have been doing a lot of thinking about this and reading as well.
Two very good books I read this past week are DIY U, by Anya
Kamenetz and The Great Brain Race, by Ben Wildavsky. I would highly recommend both.
Both books cover the higher education landscape in different but complementary ways and discuss existing and novel approaches likely to be a part of the evolution of higher education, in the U.S. and globally.
I think both of these books are on target in including a stated (or implied) meaningful contribution to higher education by for-profit educational institutions. And in their statements about some of the concerns that exist regarding the participation of and growth of the for-profit sector.
Ms. Kamenetz also wrote on Huffington Post a balanced view of some of the recent commentary about for-profit institutions.
If you are interested in where higher education is going, or should be going, take the time to read these two books ….
